Located on Mostyn Avenue in Llandudno we are putting creativity at the heart of our education, the Centre’s mission is to deliver highly employable stylists through the most thorough and innovative training.
Fully Funded placements now available for 16-24 Year olds. You should have a placement in a Salon already, or have one lined up so that you can fulfil assessments and observations to gain your qualification.

Have you ever been to the hairdressers and thought, “I could do that”? Can you imagine taking the first steps of training for a career that would allow you to work in a salon or start your own business? If the answer is ‘yes’ to any of the questions above then maybe you should consider studying a VRQ in hairdressing.
Who is this course for?
This course is for Students aged 14+. It is an introduction into Salon life and will give experience for individuals who want to become a hairdresser. It will help to build a basic knowledge for future study. Students should discuss studying a VRQ with their School. This qualification will need to be completed within school hours and is equivalent to a GCSE on the performance table.
The Course will give individuals an introduction to Salon life, giving them an edge to gain an apprentice position working to achieve NVQ Level 2. The course is practical and will give you the chance to develop a number of skills in hairdressing.
2 years, based on a part time study of 4 hours a week during school term time. Work experience in a Tommy’s Salon will also be included in this course.

The Hairdressing Course delivered by Tommy’s Education Centre for Level 2 programme includes cutting, colouring, product promotion and health and safety to working on reception and customer care – taking you to hairdressing success in 32 weeks.
It is the route to obtaining the nationally recognised Level 2 working towards Level 3.
Who is this course for?
Those who wish to pursue a career in hairdressing at a basic level or who want to pursue their level 3 or even level 4 to manage a salon or franchise their own Tommy’s salon in the future.

Who is this course for?
The Tommy’s Education Centre Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing (QCF) is a technical level qualification for learners seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed hairdresser/stylist. This qualification is based on Hairdressing National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK’s lead hairdressing professional association (The Hairdressing Council) as being fit for purpose for preparing learners for a career as a senior hairdresser/stylist. Learners should hold a Level 2 qualification in hairdressing prior to undertaking this qualification.
Learners who complete this qualification are eligible to become a State Registered Hairdresser (SRH) with The Hairdressing Council. Career opportunities as an advanced hairdresser/senior stylist exist in a variety of contexts, including:
- Commercial salons
- Specialist African type hair salons
- Independent/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings
- Product manufacturing and training
- Television, film, theatre and media
- Armed services
- HM prison service
- Cruise liners
- Hospitals/care homes
Whilst this qualifications primary purpose is to prepare learners for employment as a senior hairdresser/stylist, learners may choose to further develop their knowledge and skills by undertaking advanced specialist qualifications at Level 4.
Level 4 is a foundation degree level qualification which can lead to a degree in Business Management. You will be working in the industry when you complete the course and you will be expected to keep up to date by attending product demonstrations and training events and master classes to continue your professional development. You may wish to consider a Tommy’s Franchise Salon as your next step in the growth process. The VTCT Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Barbering (QCF) is a substantial vocational qualification for learners seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed junior barber. This qualification is based on the Level 2 Barbering National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK’s leading professional association (The British Barbering Association – BBA) as being fit for purpose for preparing learners for a career as a junior barber.
Entry onto this qualification can be via previous attainment of a Level 1 qualification in hairdressing!
This qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as a junior barber including: health and safety; client consultation; shampooing and conditioning hair; basic hair cuts; blowdry and finishing and cutting facial hair to shape. These units are all mandatory.
Learners will also develop their understanding and skills by selecting a number of optional specialist units which include: changing men’s hair colour; creating basic patterns in hair; perming; reception duties and promoting products and services to clients – the full list of optional units is presented in the learner Record of Assessment book. This qualification’s structure provides learners with the flexibility to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills depending upon their designated career pathway as a junior barber.
